He was instrumental in the development of the Conference of Food Engineering, which seeks to advance food engineering in research, education, and outreach. For much of his career, he has served as a faculty member of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and School of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University and is considered a pioneer in the food engineering discipline.
